11choking hazards!

Once your baby is ready for finger foods, make sure they're soft and cut into pieces no bigger than the diameter of her little finger. Avoid the following items, which are the most common choking hazards for babies (and children of all ages)

1. Candy
2. Chewing gum
3. Hot dogs
4. Ice cubes
5. Marshmallows
6. Nuts
7. Popcorn
8. Potato/tortilla chips
9. Raisins
10.Raw carrots
11.Whole grapes

  Baby Recipes

  Bananas     4 - 6 months +
Vitamins: A, C, Folate
Minerals: Potassium, Phosphorus, Selenium, Magnesium, Calcium

1.  Peel ripe bananas - do not cook
2.  Place banana in a food processor/food mill or blender and puree
3. You can also mash the banana in a bowl using a regular fork – heat in microwave for 25 seconds prior  to  mashing for extra softness
4.  Add formula/breast milk or water to thin or add cereal (if desired) to thicken up
 Broccoli     8-10 months+
Vitamins:  A, C, E, K, Niacin,  Folate
Minerals: Potassium, Sodium, Selenium, Phosphorous, Iron, Magnesium, Calcium

1.  Wash broccoli under cool water.
2.  Chop stems and florets into small pieces; using just the florets will many times yield a smoother puree. Steam until tender.
3.  Place into your choice of appliance for pureeing and begin pureeing.
4.  Add water as necessary to achieve a smooth, thin consistency
 Tofu Finger Cubes
1 Package Firm Tofu (we love Nasoya)
Crushed/Powdered Cereal, Crackers, Granola or Wheat Germ
Slice tofu into small cubes that are manageable for your baby.
Toss tofu in a Ziploc bag with crushed Cheerios, crushed graham crackers or crushed granola
Close bag and toss to thoroughly coat tofu cubes – serve as finger food for snack or as protein source at a meal
