Remember windows
In the city, we had window guards on all of our apartment windows. It never occurred to me to install guards on our two-story suburban home when we moved in until my daughter nearly fell out her bedroom window lunging after a toy. Thank goodness I was there to catch her. That same day, we locked all the windows at the bottom and the next day, we put in metal guards. (To make them look less ugly, we also put in window boxes to hide them).

Paint your window
Instead of buying holiday decorations for our windows, we paint them with poster paints mixed with a drop of liquid dishwashing detergent. That way, when the holidays have come to an end, we can use ordinary window cleaner to wipe away our holiday reminders
